The Mandolin is a very nice instrument to play. It uses pairs of strings that are tuned to the same pitch, which gives it a wonderful ringing tone. The pairs of strings are close together and fingered together like those on a 12 string guitar.
Mandolins can be acoustic or electric. The one shown is a solid body electric model. The mandolin uses the same tuning as the violin and as a result fiddle tunes can easily be played on the instrument. As well as playing tunes the mandolin can be used as an accompanying instrument where chords are played. It is usually used in folk and Americana music.
